My First Year of Marriage

I wanted to write a post about everything that I learned in my first year of marriage, but I wanted it to be a little bit different. So I got some help from Ron Swanson.

#1 No matter what your wife does, you’ll love her.

#2 Your wife can either a.) ask you to do something or b.) tell you how to do something, but not both.

#3 Your wife will try to get you to eat food that you don’t want.

#4 There’s always that one thing you wife does that you hate (refer back to #1).

#5 Your wife will always make sure you hear her.

#6 There will be that time where your wife will throw something.

#7 That moment when you do something awesome and this is how your wife reacts. (For me I fixed our vacuum)

#8 Communication. Lots of communication.

#13 Coming home from work to my wife is the best feeling ever.

All fun aside, I love my wife more than anything and I’m looking forward to spending many more years to come.

Finding Me (Part 2)

So it’s been a couple months now since that fateful day. Let me update you on everything that has happened so far. As a reminder of what this is about you can go back and read part 1 here.

About 2 weeks after I had submitted all my paper work to Pennsylvania’s Adoption Registry, I received a letter from them in the mail. As I was walking back to our apartment from the mail room; my heart was pounding, I had butterflies in my stomach, and I felt like I was going to vomit. I was nervous, anxious, excited, and restless. Once I finally got inside, I frantically opened the letter.

Thank you for your inquiry Mr. Jacobs. Your records will be kept on file. If anything were to change please send another form with the different information.”

Or, something like that. I was crushed. I thought that this was going to be it, but alas it was only confirmation. So fast forward another 2 or 3 weeks. Another letter. Those same feelings came back, but this time I was a little guarded. I didn’t want to be let down again. With your inquiry into our database, we suggest that you start with the agency that handled your adoption.

Ugh, nothing.

Well, this past week I decided to call the CYS agency that handled my adoption.  A wonderful lady by the name of Eunice was going to help me. Eunice said that she’s the only person in and can’t go back to the files to see about my information. But when she gets an opportunity she will call me back by the end of the week or next week at latest…

So now, we wait.

I am Bankrupt Without Love (Part 2)

A widow – Mark 12:41-42

Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.” (NLT)

A paralyzed man – Mark 2:4-5

They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (NLT)

A sinful woman – Luke 7:37-38

When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.  Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.” (NLT)

If I were to give away all of my money to the poor…If I were to bring all of my friends and family to a relationship with Jesus…If I were to devote all of my time to studying the word of God…

But had no love…

it’s useless.

(Fill in the Blank) Can’t Help Me.

I was reading my devotion from this morning that took me into Psalm 1:2

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” (NLT)

I never liked the word meditate. When I hear it I think of Kung Fu Panda sitting in a cave trying to catch a droplet of water and then put it on a flower to be added to a small pond.

ShifuWaterDrop

That’s boring to me. Why would I want to sit around in complete silence muttering “uhmmm…?”

When it comes to relationship with Christ, I want a church with the best speaker and the best worship band. One that serves coffee that you can take into the main sanctuary and let it rest in a cup holder while I relax in a comfy pew/seat with my iPad taking notes and using the Bible App.

Then I realized that (fill in the blank)can’t help me.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” (NLT)

Psalm 1:2-3. Just to be with God (reading his word) and knowing (thinking, understanding, meditating whatever you want to call it) what he is saying is going to be the thing that CAN help me. Like a tree planted along the riverbank, I’ll bear fruit.
